The 'Runaway Train' actor apologizes for publicly stating he was responsible for his famous sister's career, acknowledging that she achieved success through her own talent and drive.

AceShowbiz - In his new memoir "Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far", Eric Roberts issues a public apology to his sister Julia Roberts for claiming he was instrumental in her career. "Now one of the things I'd like to apologize for in this book is for publicly saying on more than one occasion, 'If it wasn't for me, there would be no Julia Roberts,' " Roberts writes. "That's not only unfortunate, but it's also untrue."

Roberts admits that his past statements were "asinine" and motivated by misplaced pride. He recognizes that Julia is a "very driven woman" who would have succeeded in acting regardless of his involvement.

While he concedes that his own journey as an actor in New York City may have inspired Julia to pursue acting, he emphasizes that she ultimately found her success through her own determination.

Roberts acknowledges the strained relationships he had with Julia and their other sisters during his battle with drug addiction. He regrets the harm his addiction caused them and expresses his desire to move on with grace and pride.

Despite his previous claims, Roberts now recognizes that his responsibility as Julia's brother is to support her and step aside if necessary. "I hope Julie will accept this public apology," he writes.

Roberts' initial attribution of responsibility for Julia's success was made in a 2018 Vanity Fair interview, where he also took credit for the success of his daughter Emma Roberts. However, he has since retracted these statements, acknowledging that Julia and Emma achieved their fame through their own talent and hard works。
