AceShowbiz - Prince Harry reportedly received a grand birthday present on his 40th birthday. If a new report is to be believed, the Duke of Sussex inherited more than $10 million on his big day on Sunday, September 15.
According to the London Times, his late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, put approximately $25 million into a trust fund for her great-grandchildren in 1994. It was said that Harry and his brother Prince William claimed the money in two installments: on their 21st and 40th birthdays.
The brothers allegedly received $7.9 million between them when they hit 21. They would get another $10.5 million when they turned 40.
"There was a trust fund set up at the time. It was a way in which the Queen Mother could set aside money for when her great-grandchildren were older and a way of passing a slice of her estate down in a tax-efficient way," a former palace aide told the outlet. "It was a way in which some of her estate could be ring-fenced for them."
Another report, meanwhile, stated that Harry was planning to celebrate his big day with a party organized by his wife, Meghan Markle, in Montecito, California. Harry also got a loving birthday shout-out from his father, King Charles III, William and his brother's wife, Kate Middleton, on social media.
"Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!" the official X account of Buckingham Palace wrote at the time. As for the Waleses, their official account reposted the message, adding, "Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to The Duke of Sussex!"
The post, however, sparked controversy as Buckingham Palace was accused of cropping Meghan out on the birthday post. A spokesperson denied the claim, saying that the image, taken in 2018, was used as received from a photo agency, and no alterations were made. While the original image captured Harry and Meghan together at a Dublin tech hub, the Firm used a close-up version, showing Harry alone, for the post.
