AceShowbiz - Tyrese Gibson recently took to social media to clarify the incident in which he was detained for failing to pay $73,000 in child support to his ex-wife, Samantha Lee.
Contrary to initial reports, Tyrese claims he was not arrested. In a recent Instagram Live, he stated, "I was never put in handcuffs. I was never arrested. I was held in a room."
According to Tyrese, his lawyer, Tanya Mitchell Graham, filed an appeal immediately after the judge's ruling, which resulted in his release. He was held in a "holding room" for approximately two hours before being released.
Tyrese's account is supported by his attorney, Beverly Cohen, who stated, "He was never jailed. He never got that far. An order was issued for his arrest, but because it's a civil case, he filed a notice of intent to appeal, which gets him out of jail."
Tyrese expressed his frustration with the negative headlines and the impact it has had on his family and career. He maintains that he has always supported his daughters beyond any court mandates and is committed to resolving the child support issues through legal channels.
"Many fathers and mothers, including myself, face significant biases in the family court system," Tyrese said. "Men striving to be present fathers are often penalized rather than supported."
Gibson is currently appealing the contempt of court finding and will continue to pursue his rights through the legal system. He plans to focus on his family and advocate for legislative reforms to address the flaws in the child support system.
