AceShowbiz - Justin Timberlake is expected to plead guilty to a lesser offense related to his drunk driving arrest in the Hamptons in June, according to the Suffolk County district attorney's office.
The singer and actor was initially charged with DWI after police observed him swerving and failing to obey a stop sign. Arrest documents describe his eyes as "bloodshot and glassy" and indicate a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. Timberlake performed poorly on sobriety tests and admitted to consuming a martini.
Timberlake's lawyer Ed Burke initially denied the intoxication charge, claiming that his client was "not intoxicated" and should not have been arrested. However, in a plea agreement reported by TMZ, the misdemeanor DWI charge will be reduced to a "driving while ability impaired" violation, carrying a penalty of $300-$500 and a temporary license suspension.
Refusing to submit to a Breathalyzer test will result in a one-year license suspension. Timberlake is scheduled to appear in person on Friday, September 13, in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court to enter his guilty plea.
Timberlake's plea comes after a lengthy legal battle. In August, Burke attempted to have the case dismissed, arguing that the initial paperwork was filed incorrectly. However, prosecutors refiled the documents and arraigned him again.
The guilty plea resolves a case that has garnered media attention and scrutiny. Timberlake, who was on a world concert tour at the time of his arrest, thanked his fans for their support despite his legal troubles.
