AceShowbiz - On the set of her first directorial movie "Loser Baby," Dakota Johnson learned a valuable lesson about energy drinks. The actress, known for her diverse roles from "Fifty Shades of Grey" to "Madame Web," found herself unusually energized and inspired. This newfound vivacity, however, was not just due to the excitement of a new project; it was fueled by Celsius, an energy drink she initially believed to be a harmless vitamin supplement.
Johnson recounted her discovery in an interview with Variety. "I discovered Celsius on day one of filming," she said. Seeing B12 and vitamin A listed on the can, she assumed it was a natural drink. "I thought it was just vitamins," she added.
The effects were almost instantaneous. She found herself staying up all night, buzzing with creative ideas. "I was like, 'I'm so creative. I'm so inspired. I'm awake all night long,' " Johnson recalled before realizing the real reason behind her sleepless nights. "It was because I was having like two Celsius a day. I didn't realize I was basically overdosing on caffeine."
Her co-star and writer of "Loser Baby," Talia Bernstein, shared a similar experience. Both women thought they were simply riding a wave of adrenaline. It was the film's costume designer who finally set them straight. "She was like, 'You're not well. You're basically having, like, four Red Bulls a day,' " Johnson shared.
The realization was jarring but also somewhat humorous in hindsight. Johnson joked, "But now I know that in dire straits… there's Celsius."
"Loser Baby," a 23-minute short, focuses on a queer woman reevaluating her relationship amidst her circle of friends. Johnson didn't initially plan to direct it but decided to take the reins out of a feeling of possessiveness, especially since many of her friends were involved. Her goal, along with Bernstein's, was to offer an authentic portrayal of gay and queer relationships, highlighting the universal struggle of figuring things out at any stage in life.
So, the next time you're looking for that extra boost during an all-nighter or a demanding project, take a page out of Dakota Johnson's book. Just make sure you know what's really in your drink. As Johnson concluded with a laugh, "I'm looking for an endorsement, Celsius I'm your girl. Night shoots, they work really well."
