AceShowbiz - Australian TV star Robert Irwin, son of the late wildlife expert Steve Irwin, has been named a Global Ambassador for Prince William's Earthshot Prize. This move marks the latest step in Irwin's ongoing support for the initiative, which aims to identify and reward groundbreaking ideas to heal the planet.
Irwin joins South African actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha as one of the first Earthshot Global Ambassadors, tasked with amplifying the prize's mission. Inspired by his father, Irwin passionately supports his animal conservation foundation, Wildlife Warriors, along with his sister Bindi Irwin and the rest of his family.
The Earthshot Prize seeks to recognize innovative ideas in five key categories: Protecting and Restoring Nature, Cleaning Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate.
"I am honored to join Nomzamo...to help shine a spotlight on the inspiring changemakers who are saving the planet," said Irwin. "The Earthshot Prize is a beacon of hope for our future generations. Healthy oceans, ecosystems, and species mean a healthy planet."
The collaboration between Irwin and Prince William comes amidst the Earthshot Prize's expansion efforts. The prize's expanded council, responsible for selecting this year's winners, will include humanitarian José Andrés, environmentalist Wanjira Mathai, and indigenous activist Nemonte Nenquimo.
The upcoming Earthshot Prize ceremony will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, in November. The event will award $1.3 million to organizations or individuals with innovative solutions to the world's most pressing challenges.
Irwin's involvement in the Earthshot Prize underscores his and Prince William's shared commitment to environmental protection and a sustainable future for the planet.
