AceShowbiz - Britney Spears is spilling the beans on an upcoming movie based on her bestselling memoir "The Woman in Me". Despite reports calling the project a "biopic," the singer herself has stated it's not a biopic and described it as "a fictional musical instead."
The 42-year-old clarified this via her Instagram post on Friday, August 30. "The project I might be doing isn't a biopic story," she wrote, before adding, "it's a fictional musical where I play an extremely intelligent character!!!"
The "Lucky" singer went on expressing her gratitude to have Jon M. Chu sign up to direct the movie. "It's flattering to be in such good company like Jon Chu !!!" she concluded her post, which came with a drawing of a girl with two cats.
Spears first teased the big-screen project via her account on X, formerly known as Twitter. On August 1, she said that she's been "working on a secret project" with producer Marc Platt. Shortly after, Universal Pictures confirmed the news, revealing that it had secured the rights to the pop star' bestselling memoir "The Woman in Me" following a "highly competitive auction."
Chu, known for directing the upcoming adaptation of "Wicked", is set to helm the biopic, with Platt producing. The film is poised to delve deep into the singer's compelling life story, from her meteoric rise to fame, through her tumultuous conservatorship, to her personal relationships and motherhood.
Following the announcement of the movie, Spears' former assistant suggested Emma Roberts play the singer in the film. Responding to the casting endorsement, the "Scream Queens" alum said, "I was like, I love her assistant. I mean, it's my true dream to play Britney Spears. It's a rumor, but I hope maybe it'll come true."
The actress went on revealing her love for Spears as saying, "I mean, I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to 'In the Zone' and said, 'I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word.' " She added, "I mean, I sing Britney to my son in the bath all the time. I'm always like, 'God, he must think I'm so weird.' That's some millennial parenting."
