AceShowbiz - Martin Short didn't shy away from showing his "love" to Meryl Streep. The "Only Murders in the Building" actor gushed over his co-star just days after they fueled their dating rumors at the series' premiere.

"I think a friendship always grows if you work with someone and love that person," the 74-year-old told Extra during a sit-down with co-stars Selena Gomez and Steve Martin. While he didn't "want to reveal too much of what happens" between their characters, Selena chimed in by calling their bond "so sweet."

Steve later interjected, noting that Meryl "is friends with all of" them. The 79-year-old comedian added, "I've worked with her... I did a movie with her very fortunately … and if I don't see her for two years [and] get back together, you're already laughing and talking. It's friendly."

The dating speculation between Martin and Meryl began at the 2024 Golden Globes when the two appeared exceptionally comfortable with each other, prompting fans to take to social media with enthusiastic well-wishes and heated discussions. One particularly excited fan noted on X, formerly known as Twitter, "Are Meryl Streep and Martin Short dating … because if that's true … that's like Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner multiplied by Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft …"

Later, both Martin and Meryl's representatives denied the rumors, labeling the actors as "just friends." Martin echoed this sentiment on an episode of "Club Random with Bill Maher", stating, "We are just very close friends."

However, rumors of their relationship reignited after the two were seen at the Season 4 premiere of Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building" last Thursday, August 22. The pair were filmed holding hands and looking cozy at the event.
