AceShowbiz - Renee Rapp had high hopes as she prepared to make her debut at two of the UK's biggest summer festivals, Reading and Leeds. Unfortunately, the notorious English summer rain had other plans, turning her anticipated performances into a soggy nightmare.
The weekend's chaos kicked off with Rapp's set at Leeds on Friday, August 23 which was canceled due to a prolonged rain delay caused by heavy downpours and fierce winds.
Rapp took to Instagram to relay the bad news to her fans, "Leeds, the weather has been too dangerous for our crew or myself to set up/access the stage all morning… I'm so sad to miss you but your safety and my team's safety is of the utmost importance."
Fans' hopes were pinned on her Reading set the following Sunday, but that, too, was marred by numerous technical issues exacerbated by relentless rain.
According to setlist.fm, Rapp's performance at Reading kicked off with "Talk Too Much," only to face immediate sound problems forcing a restart. "Guys, I really really really wanna give you a good show. Um… we are drenched. Some of our equipment is f**ked," Rapp candidly told the audience amid the chaos.
Despite attempting to salvage the concert by restarting the set with "Not My Fault," the performance was continually interrupted by nature's fury. At one point, a deluge of rainwater collected on the stage roof drenched Rapp and her crew, prompting the stage team to rush out and dry the equipment.
The mounting safety concerns and technical challenges eventually led to the set being cut short after just four songs. Following the abrupt ending, Rapp took to Instagram expressing her frustration in a no-holds-barred manner, sharing a video with her crew and animatedly expressing her displeasure.
Reading organizers issued an apology, stating, "We would like to thank Reneé Rapp for her perseverance and professionalism amidst the technical difficulties we have had to continue to deal with from Storm Lilian."
Fans and organizers alike hope Rapp will be willing to return in the future for a less weather-plagued performance.
Adding to the festival woes, Lana Del Rey also faced disappointments when her Reading set was unexpectedly cut short due to a production error, despite having started late. Del Rey, like Rapp, had to navigate the festival's notorious bad weather and associated technical problems, including poor sound quality that marred many performances throughout the weekend.
