AceShowbiz - Machine Gun Kelly has opened up about his daughter's influence in his decision to quit using drugs. The "Lonely Road" singer credited Casie, whom he shares with his ex Emma Cannon, for convincing him to do so amid his substance abuse.
The 34-year-old musical artist talked about the matter when he made an appearance on the "Million Dollaz Worth of Game" podcast. In the Sunday, August 18 episode of the podcast, he recalled how his 15-year-old daughter confronted him about his substance abuse.
MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, said, "It started with my daughter saying, 'Dad, you know I can tell when you're high.' " Before noting that it happened when Cassie was 11 or 12 years old, he admitted, "It broke my heart. It was the ultimate let down."
MGK went on to explain, "She's 15 now. It took me a while afterwards because obviously, you know, drugs have a vice grip on you." However, it was not the only reason. He continued, "And also bro, I grew up in a house where I was constantly being forced to be like being somebody else was beaten into me."
The artist elaborated, "So it gets to the point when you're in fifth grade, sixth grade, you start to become ashamed of who you are because you aren't who your father wants you to be. And really that's just a reflection of him not being who he wanted to be."
After a video from the podcast episode was shared on YouTube, MGK received supportive messages from the viewers. In the comments section, one in particular wrote, "I'm so proud of Kells putting himself out there more with interviews. Happy and sober. It's so nice to hear and see. And I'm hoping the world will finally start seeing him in the way that est, friends and family do. A kind genuine light hearted charismatic person who gives back in so many different ways."
Similarly, another chimed in, "Damn, sober MGK is totally different. Been a huge fan since 2012 and its been cool to watch his journey. Bro really could have crashed and burned but he's trying to level up in so many ways. Respect."
