AceShowbiz - Mary J. Blige is redefining her narrative, embracing life with newfound vigor through key projects that highlight her growth and resilience. Eight years after her divorce, the R&B icon is finally "Breathing". Her liberating new single, which sees her collaborate once again with longtime friend Fabolous, is a testament to her journey of self-love and independence.
"The story behind the track is what I'm doing finally, which is living, breathing, enjoying my life and celebrating the happiness and freedom I have that life brings," Blige shared in an interview with PEOPLE.
This new single is just a taste of what's to come. Blige's forthcoming album, expected to drop by the end of September or early October, promises a blend of real and serious themes alongside tracks you can dance or sing to. "The overall theme is enjoying life and understanding that, again, life is what inspires me, whether I take the good with the bad," says Blige. Fans can expect two singles before the full album release.
Not only is Mary J. Blige making waves in music, but she's also making a powerful statement in film. Her new movie "[m=Rob Peace", for which she also served as an executive producer through her Blue Butterfly banner, tells the poignant story of a gifted Black student navigating economic challenges from childhood to Yale. Blige plays the role of his resilient mother, Jackie, drawing parallels from her own mother's struggles.
"What drew me to the role as Jackie is the fact that it's a true story of a woman living in an inner city raising her child who was brilliant, and she figures out how brilliant he is and she works tirelessly to make sure he goes to college," Blige reflects.
