The statement described him as a man with an infectious sense of humor, an unwavering love for music, and an enduring legacy in rock and roll. "With tremendous sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Jack Patrick Russell - father, husband, cousin, uncle, and friend," the statement began, adding that the singer "passed peacefully" surrounded by his wife Heather Ann, son Matthew Hucko and other family and friends.
It continued to read, "Jack is loved and remembered for his sense of humor, exceptional zest for life, and unshakeable contribution to rock and roll where his legacy will forever live and thrive."
Great White gained prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their hit songs "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" and "The Angel Song". Russell played a pivotal role in the band's success, co-founding it in 1982 and contributing to the release of several albums, including "Once Bitten" (1987) and "Twice Shy" (1989).
Russell's name is also linked to the tragic Station nightclub fire in 2003, where 100 people lost their lives and 230 others were injured during a Great White performance. Russell expressed deep regret and remorse over the incident, stating that he wished to apologize and offer condolences to the victims and their families.
In recent years, Russell's health declined due to his ongoing battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Multiple System Atrophy. In July, he announced his retirement from touring, expressing gratitude for the years of support from his fans. Great White shared their condolences on Instagram, calling him "one of rock's biggest champions" and praising his exceptional voice.
