Her portrayal of Jane Tennant, head of a fictionalized version of the Naval Criminal Investigation Service at the Pearl Harbor Field Office, was historic as she was the franchise's first female lead.

Vanessa was deeply touched by her role, often sharing moments from their Hawaiian life on social media. In May, she reflected, "You see... we aren't meant to be here forever, we are on borrowed time...we leave it better for the next dreamer."
