AceShowbiz - Nina Dobrev, the 35-year-old "Vampire Diaries" star, is gradually healing from a dirt bike accident that occurred in May. Speaking to PEOPLE at the Shiseido Blue Project Beach Clean-Up in Huntington Beach, Calif., Dobrev expressed optimism about her progress.
"I'm a little ahead of schedule in terms of healing, but it is still a very long process," Dobrev said.
The accident resulted in torn ligaments (ACL and meniscus) and a fractured tibial plateau, necessitating a recovery period of approximately nine months to a year. Dobrev noted that she is currently three and a half months into recovery.
Dobrev's boyfriend, Olympic snowboarder Shaun White, 37, has been instrumental in her recovery journey. White provided assistance during their recent trip to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games, where he arranged for a wheelchair and other accommodations to minimize Dobrev's walking.
"He's been especially supportive, especially during the Olympics," Dobrev said.
Dobrev credits Lindsey Vonn's recent knee surgery recovery for inspiring her to share her own story. She posted a lighthearted Instagram update expressing progress and gratitude for no longer needing crutches.
"I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel," Dobrev wrote.
