AceShowbiz - "Dance Moms" is making a grand return to Hulu with "A New Era", featuring an all-new cast, a new coach, and a fresh twist on the mama drama that made the original series wildly popular. Helmed by Glo Hampton, the reboot is set to be just as dramatic - or possibly even more so - than its predecessor.
"This will be the biggest challenge of my career. I'm the coach of the next big team," says Hampton confidently. Echoing the original series' catchphrase, she asserts, "I can replace anyone at any time."
The series bids farewell to the Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC) studios and welcomes viewers to the prestigious Studio Bleu. With a focus on national competition, the new series promises a continuation of the intense rivalry and emotional confrontations that fans adore.
Though it remains unclear if the iconic pyramid child ranking system will return, the teaser has already shown a team of seven girls in full makeup and striking dance costumes, each prepared to outshine the others.
Notably, the original "Dance Moms" alumni recently reunited for a special episode, "Dance Moms: The Reunion", which aired on Lifetime. The reunion brought together former stars Chloe Lukasiak, JoJo Siwa, Brooke and Paige Hyland, Kalani Hilliker, and Kendall Vertes.
Conspicuously absent were fan-favorites Maddie Ziegler and Mackenzie Ziegler as well as Nia Sioux. Abby Lee Miller, the original show's controversial coach, was also not invited. Instead, Miller is busy with her own new show, "Abby Lee Dance With Me!".
JoJo Siwa, one of the standout stars from the original series, continues to excel in her career. After her stint on "Dance Moms" and Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition, Siwa skyrocketed to fame with a massive YouTube following and a significant licensing deal with Nickelodeon.
She even earned a spot on Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2020. "One of the biggest things that I ever learned from Dance Moms was either to sink or swim," she said, referring to her experience on the show.
Siwa has no plans of slowing down. In 2021, she made history by partnering with Jenna Johnson as the first same-sex couple on the U.S. version of "Dancing With the Stars". Looking ahead, she has her sights set on an even bigger stage: the Super Bowl halftime show. "My dream, dream, dream, dream is the Super Bowl, to do the halftime performance," she shared. "Then I'll retire and have babies."
"Dance Moms: A New Era" will be a 10-episode series that premieres on Hulu on August 7. With fresh faces and new challenges, it's set to enthrall a new generation of fans while keeping the spirit of the original alive.
