AceShowbiz - Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus and singer-songwriter Firerose have ended their marriage, making their split official on Instagram. The estranged couple are no longer following each other on social media, though their posts together remained visible on their feeds.
On May 22, 62-year-old Billy Ray Cyrus quietly filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE. By June 11, news of their separation became public.
Firerose had previously celebrated six months of marriage with Cyrus on Instagram, sharing photos from their wedding day and expressing gratitude for their union. "6 months ago I married this man. Life isn't always easy… but it sure helps when your husband's also your best friend. Thank you Lord!" she wrote in an April 12 post. Similarly, Cyrus indicated his contentment by sharing a selfie with Firerose and captioning it, "so much to be grateful for."
Despite the romantic start, Cyrus's divorce filing includes a request for annulment on the grounds of fraud. TMZ first reported the news of their split.
The couple met on set of Billy Ray's Disney show "Hannah Montana" and became friends years before they started dating in 2022. Their relationship blossomed during the COVID-19 pandemic as they began writing songs together. Their engagement followed later in 2022, and they wed in an intimate ceremony on October 10, 2023.
Reflecting on their wedding day, they posted on Instagram, "10/10/23 will always be the beautiful, joyous day that our two souls united as one in holy matrimony. It was the most perfect, ethereal celebration of love we could have ever imagined."
The pair seemed in sync professionally as well, releasing their latest track "After the Storm" in March. They discussed the song's hopeful message with PEOPLE, with Firerose stating, "Only by the grace of God did I survive my darkest nights. There is so much truth in these lyrics and it's my purpose to help others find strength in their toughest hours."
In August 2023, they made an appearance on "Good Morning America", speaking warmly about their relationship. Cyrus compared their partnership to "a peanut butter and jelly," highlighting the harmony of their differing backgrounds. Firerose added, "It has been a beautiful whirlwind and I'm just so grateful that I get to live my dreams every day with the love of my life."
During their relationship, Billy Ray Cyrus reportedly became estranged from some of his children including daughter Miley Cyrus although he has since extended olive branch by praising her as a "true artist."
