AceShowbiz - Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon have confirmed that a third season of "Big Little Lies" is in the works. Rumors of a new season began swirling in November 2023 after Kidman revealed the news in an interview.

"We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI," Kidman said. However, the actress later admitted that her excitement got the better of her. "I got excited," she told Vanity Fair.

Despite the premature announcement, all five of the show's main stars have expressed their enthusiasm for returning to Monterey. Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley confirmed their involvement after hearing Kidman's comments.

The absence of Meryl Streep, who played Perry Wright's mother in season 2, has been noted. Liane Moriarty, the author of the original novel, is reportedly writing the source material for season 3. "We're moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. Yeah, and we're in good shape," Kidman said.

The death of director Jean-Marc Vallee in 2021 was a significant setback for the show's development. The absence of Vallée, who was instrumental in bringing Moriarty's novel to television, has been felt. A replacement director has yet to be announced.

Despite these challenges, the cast and crew are eager to reunite. "We're just waiting for the word to get our bags packed and get to work," Kidman said.
