AceShowbiz - Michelle Obama has recently shared messages of thanks on social media, reflecting the collective comfort and kind words she and her family have received following the passing of her mother, Marian Robinson, who died on May 31 at the age of 86.
The former first lady, aged 60, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram to extend her gratitude. She wrote, "I just wanted to say thank you for all the prayers, kind words, and love that you all have shown our entire family these last few days. Every text, comment on social media, and beautiful tribute has brought us some light. It means so much to hear what a special woman she was to you all, as well. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you."
The Obama family, including daughters Malia and Sasha, were thankful for the support they had received. Reflecting on her mother's influence, Michelle described Robinson as her "rock," who played a pivotal role in their lives, especially during Barack Obama's presidency. Robinson moved into the White House with the Obamas, leaving her native Chicago behind to assist in raising her granddaughters amidst the demands of presidential life. Michelle recalled, "Although she enforced whatever household rules we'd set for bedtime, watching TV, or eating candy, she made clear that she sided with her 'grandbabies' in thinking that their parents were too darn strict."
Moreover, Robinson was a stabilizing presence, ensuring her granddaughters remained grounded despite the extraordinary circumstances they grew up in. Barack Obama, echoing this sentiment, noted during an interview, "Marian didn't understand all the fuss. She was great to have around with the girls...If she saw them acting bratty, she'd say 'You guys haven't done anything. Why are you acting special? You're just here for the ride.' And they'd suddenly go, 'You're right, Grandma.' "
