In a candid conversation, the 'Heart Attack' singer opens up about her profound journey through multiple mental health treatments and how she eventually found light and hope by working on herself.

AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato has experienced a profound transformation after undergoing multiple in-patient mental health treatments. The 31-year-old singer shared her insights at The Center For Youth Mental Health at NewYork-Presbyterian's annual benefit.

Lovato candidly revealed that she felt defeated after each treatment center admission. "I have been to inpatient treatment five times," she said. "Every time I walked back into a treatment center, I felt defeated."

However, a glimmer of hope emerged when she embraced the work involved. "I started putting in the work," she explained. "Whether it was work, a program, or talking to my treatment team and building relationships there, that's when things began to change."

She emphasized the importance of finding joy in the little things, something she had struggled with in the past. "I was so used to not seeing hope," she said.

Following her fifth treatment, Lovato felt a significant shift. "It felt like I had hit rock bottom and I just knew what I needed to do, which was to live a life in recovery," she shared. She also credited the right medication for playing a crucial role.

"I think I had hit another low, and I was like, 'what am I doing wrong?' I felt defeated," she recalled. "But when all of the key parts started to fit into place like a perfect puzzle, I started to find the light again."

Lovato's journey has taught her that her mental health is not her identity. "It wasn't until I went into treatment for the first time that I realized this isn't who I am. It's just a part of what makes me me," she said. "It's never become my identity since then. It's just become something about me that makes me a little interesting."

She expressed gratitude for overcoming her struggles. "I'm grateful for the things that I've been through and what I've overcome," she said.

Lovato's story serves as a reminder that with proper support and a commitment to self-work, it is possible to find healing and a brighter future.
