AceShowbiz - "When Calls the Heart" star Mamie Laverock is showing hopeful signs of recovery after a horrific incident where she fell five stories from a hospital balcony walkway. Her parents, Nicole and Rob Compton, have been consistently updating supporters through a GoFundMe page dedicated to her medical bills.
The 19-year-old actress suffered a medical emergency on May 11, which led to hospitalization in Winnipeg. She was later transferred to Vancouver, where she was under intensive treatment.
On May 26, Laverock was "escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories," her parents explained. The fall resulted in life-threatening injuries, multiple extensive surgeries, and placement on life support.
In a recent update, Rob and Nicole Compton shared some good news, "Mamie is out of her big surgeries and the doctors [say] she is doing well. It's impossible for us to be happier. Thank you all for your support." Despite the positive update, the family indicated that Laverock's recovery might take "upwards of a month or more."
The young star has received an outpouring of support from her "When Calls the Heart" family and beyond. Co-star Johannah Newmarch, who portrayed Laverock's on-screen mother, Molly Sullivan, shared on X (formerly Twitter), "I love this family, my heart is broken. A devastating time for all who care for Mamie. Please help if you can. They need all the support they can get to make it through this."
Erin Krakow, who stars as Elizabeth Thornton on the show, also took to Instagram to express her well-wishes, "I just donated. If you have the means to do so, I hope you will too. Link in bio."
The Hallmark Channel also issued a statement on social media, "We are deeply saddened to hear the news about Mamie. As a beloved member of our When Calls the Heart community, we wish her and her family peace, comfort, and many prayers during this difficult time and have made a donation to her GoFundMe page."
Laverock, who has played the role of Rosaleen Sullivan on "When Calls the Heart" across several seasons from 2014 to 2023, is being supported by fans and fellow cast members in her journey toward recovery. As of May 30, the GoFundMe campaign has surpassed its $30,000 CAD goal, with over $32,000 CAD donated by more than 500 people.
The young actress's road to recovery is sure to be lengthy, but the unwavering support from her family, friends, and fans offers a glimmer of hope during this challenging time.
