Shayanna Jenkins, the mother of Hernandez's 11-year-old daughter, expressed her disappointment with the jokes, saying, "It's sad that I'm trying to raise my children in such a cruel world." Feeling betrayed by the people who had once been so close to him, she noted that her daughter will one day inevitably see the jokes made about her father.
Comedian Nikki Glaser referenced Hernandez's suicide by hanging, and former teammate Julian Edelman joked that Hernandez had "a ring...around his neck."
Jenkins remains steadfast in her love for Hernandez, a talented athlete whose career plummeted into infamy following a conviction for murder, despite his troubled past. In her reflection, she still recalls the memories of Hernandez with fondness, describing their relationship as a "total touchdown."
On the anniversary of his death, she posted a heartfelt message on social media, "It takes as long as it takes, I will always wake up everyday only to remember you are not here and have to feel that ache all over again."
