AceShowbiz - Mindy Kaling is not beefing with B.J. Novak. The "Never Have I Ever" alum laughed off rumors suggesting that she had a fallout with her BFF.
The 44-year-old shared her response in an Instagram post made by DeuxMoi on Friday, March 22. The post featured an audio clip from the celebrity gossip account's podcast, "Deux/U", where a source close to the two stars claimed the comedienne initiated some sort of separation and Novak agreed they needed "some distance."
In the comment section, Kaling sarcastically wrote, "Omg I haaate him so much." Novak, meanwhile, has yet to address the chatter.
Kaling and and starred as coworkers and lovers Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard, respectively, on "The Office" from 2005 to 2013. The duo dated for a couple of years during this time before calling it quits in 2007.
Despite the split, Kaling and Novak have remained close. It prompted fans to assume that "The Mindy Project" creator and the "Vengeance" actor were more than friends.
Kaling herself once admitted that her relationship with Novak is "weird as hell." She told InStyle in 2015, "He is not my boyfriend, but he is not my best friend... I guess you could describe our relationship as a 'romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments,' but I don’t think Facebook would accept this as a new status."
Novak, for his part, has revealed that their new romantic partners have often been "skeptical" of his relationship with Kaling. "Whenever we date anyone else, I think there's a period where the person is very skeptical of our friendship," he told Entertainment Weekly in January 2013.
" 'Everyone seems to think you two might be a couple, and I don't mean to get in the way. Are you sure you're not dating? Are you sure you're not going to end up dating?' " he elaborated. "It's such a common thing to have that platonic best friend that becomes a little weird when you start dating someone."
