AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift has proven that she has the utmost respect for Celine Dion despite speculation suggesting otherwise. The two singers have been pictured sharing a sweet moment backstage amid allegation that the pop superstar ignored the 55-year-old diva following their encounter at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
At the 66th annual ceremony which was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 4, Dion made a surprise appearance to present the Album of the Year award. The "Anti-Hero" singer ended up taking the trophy for "Midnights", making history with her fourth Grammy win in the category.
As she took the stage to accept the award, the 34-year-old songwriter shared warm embraces with her collaborators Jack Antonoff and Lana Del Rey before snatching the trophy out of the hands of Dion. Many soon called her out for allegedly disrespecting the music legend.
"Taylor Swift fully ignoring Celine Dion like the disrespect even Celine was like… que?" one person reacted on X, formerly Twitter. Another pointed out, "Taylor Swift just took the album of the year trophy from Celine Dion without batting an eye and/or acknowledging that a legendary [GOAT] was handing her the award. So cringey for my soul."
"Taylor Swift will never EVER live down ignoring Celine Dion at the Grammys," a third user warned. Another slammed the "Karma" songstress, "Taylor Swift didn't deserve AOTY and F**K HER for ignoring Celine Dion on stage."
Even "The Real Housewives of Potomac" star Candiace Dillard weighed in on the matter, "I don't like how Tay didn't acknowledge Queen Celine. #GRAMMYs." Meanwhile, former "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" correspondent Kalen Allen shared her heated take on the situation, "I'm not listening to any excuses...especially after we watched how [Miley Cyrus] acted with [Mariah Carey] at the show's start. This was not [Swift's] first time at the #GRAMMYs but her fourth time winning this award."
He continued, "Swifties can dox me or whatever, but considering the significance of Celine coming to do this moment, to run around that stage hugging and carrying on and ultimately act as if this artist who has paved the way is not standing there is insane."
However, viewers didn't see how Swift treated Dion backstage. In a photo circulating online, the two ladies were seen sharing a laugh as the "Shake It Off" hitmaker wrapped her arms across Dion to place her hand on the "My Heart Will Go On" singer's shoulder. The two also leaned their heads against one another's in the image.
