AceShowbiz - Sofia Vergara is unrecognizable in the first official trailer for Netflix's "Griselda". The new footage gives fans a better look at the actress portraying the title role of Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug queenpin who was known for creating one of the most profitable cartels in history.
Kicking off the trailer, a woman in a court scene notes that Griselda "has owned Miami distributing cocaine" for the last three years. A man beside her further says, "Ms. Blanco's operation has been efficient, deadly, and incredibly successful."
Later, the trailer sees Sofia's Griselda encouraging a group of men and women outside of a motel. "This is the country of dreams. We have the power to bring excitement back into their boring lives," she tells them in Spanish.
As Griselda's business is getting bigger, she appears to get threatened by other competitors. "Go home, lady," a man warns her in Spanish, before adding, "I'm gonna tell every dealer in Miami not to touch your coke."
Elsewhere in the trailer, a home can be seen being set on fire. Things get messy with Griselda yelling, "After all that I have been through, I am not going to give it away for nothing. You wanna see how far I'll get?" The teaser concludes with a woman saying that Griselda walks like she's a boss.
Hailing from "Narcos" and "Narcos: Mexico" showrunner Eric Newman, "Griselda" follows the life of Colombian-born Griselda. The famed drug cartel leader's lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, earning her "the Godmother" nickname.
Andres Baiz directs all six episodes of "Griselda". In addition to starring, Sofia serves as an executive producer for the show that also stars Carolina Giraldo a.k.a. Karol G as Carla, one of Griselda's most trusted confidants.
"Griselda" will premiere on Netflix on January 25, 2024.
