In a new interview, the 'Modern Family' actress talks about raising her teenage children and her rules when it comes to allowing them access to cell phones and social media.

AceShowbiz - Julie Bowen had her children wait until they were 14 before allowing them to go on social media. The 53-year-old actress shares son Oliver, 16 as well as 14-year-old twins John and Gus with former husband Scott Phillips and explained that she is "so glad" that she stopped them from having access to the likes of Facebook and Instagram until later on in their teens for the sake of their brain development.

"My kids did not get cell phones until they were 14 and they didn't get social media until they were 14. And boy, am I glad personally that I waited … [their phones are now] glued to their faces. I just think they need more time. They say that your prefrontal cortex isn't developed until you're in your twenties," she told UsWeekly.

The "Modern Family" star went on to add that now that her children do have social media accounts, they have to allow her to follow their platforms and she has open conversations with them but is trying to remain hopeful for the future.

"They have to let me follow them. Of course, they could set up secret accounts and all that stuff, but you try to have conversations in a more global sense about being an ethical person and then hope they take into their personal life. There's a lot of fingers crossed, I'm going to be honest with you."

"They're very polite as far as girls go. They bring girls over. Please be nice and remember you will always see this person.' No one disappears. So, act as if you're going to see this person tomorrow at all times. And do not ever post anything, ever, if you don't want me to see it."
