AceShowbiz - Meryl Streep and Don Gummer have gone their separate ways. Despite calling it quits six years ago after nearly four decades of marriage, "The Devil Wears Prada" actress and her now-ex still "care for each other."
The 74-year-old and the feted sculptor's split was confirmed by her spokesperson. In an exclusive statement shared with Page Six on Friday, October 20, the spokesperson said, "Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart."
The news came as a surprise as Meryl was spotted wearing her wedding ring when attending the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023 that day. However, the Academy Awards winner and her then-husband, 76, were indeed last seen together at the 2018 Oscars.
Meryl and Don share four children together. They are singer-songwriter Henry Wolfe, 43, and actresses Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 32, whom they raised at their Connecticut compound in the quiet, historic town of Salisbury.
Meryl and Don tied the knot in 1978 after they were first introduced by her brother. Of the secret to their long-lasting marriage, the "Mamma Mia!" star said it was 'goodwill and willingness to bend - and to shut up every once in a while." She further elaborated, There's no road map on how to raise a family: It's always an enormous negotiation."
Meryl also had good "teamwork" with her former spouse when it came to raising their four kids. "Teamwork is everything. My husband Don was…very involved. He was a little more relaxed when it comes to raising kids. I was more of a tiger mom," she said during an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald in 2019.
