AceShowbiz - Janelle Monae has surprised those in attendance at the 2023 Essence Festival. While entertaining concertgoers with her stage performance at the music festival, the "I Like That" hitmaker flashed the right side of her breast to the packed audience.
The shocking moment happened when the 37-year-old was performing live on stage in New Orleans on Friday, June 30. At one point, she raised one side of her bra top to display her right breast. Fortunately, she covered her nipple with a pink flower-shaped sticker.
For the show, the "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" actress donned a bra top which had black straps and triangular shape patterns in black and white colors. She added a pair of matching shorts that came with matching rectangular shape patterns, a matching checkered hat over her long dark locks and a pair of white earrings.
Janelle's antics were documented in a video uploaded via Twitter by Essence Festival. Accompanying the clip, the account wrote in the caption, "YOU CANNOT POLICE @JanelleMonae #EssenceFest."
The tweet did not take long to be bombarded with comments. In the replies section, one Twitter user wrote, "I feel like Janelle Monae going through a midlife crisis or a breakup or some s**t. While there are no complaints on behalf of the breast men of America."
The commenter continued, "How you go from dressing like a lottery pick at the NBA Draft to flashing t***ies every chance you get?" Another chimed in, "Notice how it's usually the black woman singers like that have to show skin and twerk just to sell a measly 33,000 copies in their first week. Meanwhile Taylor Swift and Adele go gold, platinum, or diamond while remaining fully clothed."
Janelle has not been shy in publicly exposing her breast. In a May 22 cover photo for Rolling Stone, the "Make Me Feel" singer posed topless with her hands strategically placed in front of her bosom to cover her nipples. About her being comfortable in her nakedness, she deemed herself as a "free-a** motherf**ker," and revealed, "I'm much happier when my t***ies are out and I can run around free."
