AceShowbiz - Deon Cole has come to Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z's defense. After the "Love on Top" hitmaker and her hip-hop mogul husband were met with backlash for spending $200 million on their new Malibu house, the "Black-ish" actor shared his thoughts on why the two should not be bothered by the criticisms.
The 51-year-old actor was asked to weigh in on the matter when out and about in New York City. In an impromptu interview with TMZ uploaded online on Wednesday, May 24, he first reminded, "It's always going to be haters. That's that negative energy the people that can't."
"They're going to talk down about someone," the actor, who will portray Alfonso in Blitz Bazawule-directed "The Color Purple", continued pointing out. "They watch people do stuff and then they critique it instead of go doing their own version of it, right?"
Deon went on to explain the reason why he thinks the couple has the right to splurge on their money. The comedian stated, "Why you gonna tell these people how they gonna spend their money when Jay got 2.5 billion and Beyonce's tour is about to create a billion."
"And she already got 500 million in the bank. That's all that's a 1.5 billion for her. And Jay got 2.5. That's right there is 4 billion between the two," he further reasoned. "And you mean to tell me they can't spend 200 million on the house? Get your life together."
Deon's comments came a few days after Queen Bey and Jay-Z were criticized for spending a fortune to buy the house. In mid-May, Pop Base's Twitter account was flooded with voices of disapproval after it shared the news of the couple's new $200 million home.
One user in particular complained, "They really spent $200 mill for Prison walls." Another chimed in, "Probably the new Scientology base." Similarly, a third wrote, "It will never fail to surprise me how celebrities can buy such ugly homes worth $200M that looks like a construction site." A fourth stated, "Kinda ugly but whatever makes my queen happy [red heart emoji]."
