Revealing what he texted the 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' alum after news of her split and financial issues broke, the Bravo TV host and executive producer says he sent his 'condolences because it's a sad thing.'

AceShowbiz - Andy Cohen feels sorry for Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kroy Biermann amid their split due to financial issues. The Bravo TV host admits that he was "very surprised" after hearing news of their divorce and tax debt.

In the Tuesday, May 9 episode of his SiriusXM's "Andy Cohen Live", Andy revealed that he reached out to Kim after learning of the "sad" news. "I sent my condolences because it's a sad thing," he said on the radio show. "They have kids, and that was just a couple that seemed very much in love."

The 54-year-old claimed that he didn't see it coming. "I was very surprised. That was not the news I ever expected to get," he said, before noting, "They were a couple that I thought they were in it for the long haul. I was very surprised and I am sorry to hear that."

Andy also showed sympathy for the estranged couple amid their financial struggles. "Sorry to hear that there may be some financial issues. TMZ is reporting that they owe a million dollars to the IRS," he added.

Kim and Kroy reportedly each filed for divorce from one another on May 5 after 11 years of marriage. In the docs, they both state that they are in a "bona fide state of separation." She lists April 30 as the date of separation and says their marriage is "irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation."

Around the same time, reports emerged that the reality TV star and the former NFL star owe $1.1 million to the IRS in unpaid taxes, interest and penalties from 2013, 2017 and 2018. They also owe the state of Georgia $15k for unpaid taxes for 2018.

Weighing in on the reports, Bethenny Frankel didn't mince her words as she ripped the couple for "spending more than [what] they have." In a fiery TikTok video posted on Monday, the former "The Real Housewives of New York City" star said, "They've always been people who seem like they're spending more than they have. He's on a football salary, she's on a 'Housewives' salary, and they're spending like the f**king planes going down. And the thing is, you can't spend more than you make."

The Skinnygirl entrepreneur advised Kim and Kroy, "Pay the IRS. You gotta f**king play. You want to play, you gotta f**king pay." She added, "These two were so perfect and were so in love … and then when the s**t goes sideways, you invited us in when it was going good and it looked like a fairy tale, or [you] made us believe it was."

Blasting the couple over their extravagant lifestyle, the 52-year-old stressed, "I hate fronting and stunting." She repeated her message in the caption which read, "Pay your bills. Don't front and stunt. All show & no go #payyourbills."

Meanwhile, an insider predicts that Kim and Kroy's divorce will get nasty. "Everyone expects this divorce is going to get really bad because neither of them will give in," the source tells PEOPLE. "Divorce is terrible but the kids are going to have to go through this in a very public manner."

In her divorce docs, Kim is seeking for primary physical custody and joint legal custody of her four minor children with Kroy. "It's really sad because he is a great dad," the source adds. "With that said, they were both very involved parents and they both deserve to share custody and anyone that knows them would agree."

A second source notes though, "She's not cutting the kids off from Kroy. She wants him to be involved as their dad."
