Back after being 'gone for quite a while,' the space squad embarks on one last mission that will see Rocket confronting his past and reuniting with an old acquaintance.

AceShowbiz - The first official trailer for the long-awaited "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is finally here. Courtesy of Marvel Entertainment, the video reunites the space squad with their beloved member Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who is presumed dead in "Avengers: Infinity War".

Back in their role as the protectors of the universe, they visit a new planet full of animal-themed aliens. They fail to make a friendly introduction as Drax (Dave Bautista) knocks down a kid by forcefully throwing a ball on her. The native aliens pelt them with rocks in response.

The trailer hints at the Guardians' final mission, with Rocket (Bradley Cooper) ready to confront his past. "Pete, I'm done running," Rocket says in a scene, before he menacingly lifts his gun. He also delivers a heartfelt line, "We'll all fly away together one last time, into the forever - that beautiful sky," while some emotional scenes show Peter (Chris Pratt) screaming in agony and Rocket's apparent reunion with an old acquaintance.

The trailer additionally gives the first look at Will Poulter's Adam Warlock, who is depicted as an all-powerful artificial being created to destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics. However, it appears that Chukwudi Iwuji's character the High Evolutionary will be the main villain, an ultra-intelligent being who created Rocket.

The film also brings back Vin Diesel as Groot, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha. Also joining the film is "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" star Maria Balakova, who plays Cosmo the Space Dog.

James Gunn returns as director and writer for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", which follows up the second installment, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (2017). To fill the long gap between these two movies, Marvel recently released "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special" on Disney+.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is slated to hit theaters across the nation on May 5, 2023.
