AceShowbiz - Contestants of "Dancing with the Stars" season 31 hit the ballroom for one last time in the season finale. Airing on Monday, November 21, the episode saw the finalists, TV host Wayne Brady, TikToker Charli D'Amelio, drag queen Shangela and former "The Bachelorette" star Gabby Windey, vying for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy.
In the finale, celebrities and their professional dancer partners performed twice. Each couple first performed a redemption dance which was selected by one of the judges. They then returned to the dance floor for highly-anticipated freestyle dances.
The first pair to perform a Redemption Dance were Shangela and Gleb Savchenko. They re-did a Quickstep, chosen by Bruno Tonioli, which they previously performed to "Queen Bee" on "Elvis Night" and got 7s across the board. Derek Hough praised Shangela, saying that she's been fantastic. In the finale, the pair got 36/40.
Wayne and Witney Carson then followed it up with a Quickstep, which was chosen by Len Goodman. They previously performed that style on "Michael Buble Night" and scored 34/40. Len thought his frame was stronger, though he said that it needed a little more movement and flow. Carrie Ann Inaba thought the posture and frame were much improved. This time, the pair were given 36/40.
Meanwhile, Charli and Mark Ballas' Redemption Dance was a Jive chosen by Carrie Ann Inaba. They previously earned 38/40 from the judges when they originally performed it on "Prom Night". Derek dubbed it remarkable with great nuance and attention to detail, while Carrie Ann said that Charli danced with her heart. The pair were given a perfect score.
As for Gabby and Valentin Chmerkovskiy's Redemption Dance, it was a Cha Cha chosen by Derek. Her original Cha Cha performance was on "Bond Night" and she received three 8s and a 9 at the time. Bruno called it sexy and stunning, while Derek said that Gabby's superpower was embodying every dance. The pair got a perfect score this time.
It was then time for Freestyle Dance with Wayne and Witney being the first performers. Dancing to Ciara's "Get Up" and Bruno Mars' "24K Magic", the pair impressed the judges. Derek said he's a fan of the routine and Carrie Ann said that he's off the charts. They got a perfect score.
Charli and Mark then returned to the ballroom to dance their Freestyle Dance to "Us Again" by Pinar Toprak. Bruno felt the routine was pure and unquestionably excellent. Len then praised Charli for getting 10s for six weeks in a row from him which no one did before. Charli continued to show herself as a strong contender with another perfect score.
Gabby and Val followed it up with a Freestyle Dance to "Cell Block Tango" from the musical "Chicago". Carrie Ann said that Gabby looked impressive, and Bruno called the dance "lethally hot." Len also praised Gabby for staying cool during a wardrobe malfunction. The judges gave her a perfect score.
Dancing a Freestyle Dance to "Survivor" by Destiny's Child and "Call Me Mother" by RuPaul to round out the night were Shangela and Gleb, who transformed into Natasha for the dance. Len admitted that he was mesmerized by the performance. As for Derek, he said that he had never seen something like that on the show before. Shangela earned a perfect score with the stunning performance.
It was time for the results. Host Tyra Banks announced that Shangela finished at fourth place with Wayne Brady being in third place. It was down to Charli D'Amelio and Gabby Windey. As Gabby came out as the runner-up, the Mirror Ball Trophy went to Charli!
