Justice was served for Safaree Samuels. It was unveiled that the rapper and reality star's childhood friend Shawn Harewood, who set up a robbery towards him four years ago, has been hit with an 18-year prison sentence.
Shawn was convicted on three counts of robbery, eluding, and resisting arrest back in July. However, he was found not guilty of robbing Safaree's friend, conspiracy to commit robbery and weapons charges.
Shawn initially denied being involved in the robbery, claiming he was intoxicated at that time. Still, the prosecution determined that he was the mastermind behind the crime and Judge Gary Wilcox sentenced him to 18 years in prison on Thursday, November 3.
Upon learning of the outcome, Bergen County Assistant Prosecutors Joe Torre and Meg Kilzy said, "We are very pleased with the outcome and thankful that justice was served for Safaree Samuels."
Before he was sentenced, Shawn apologized to "all involved" and admitted that the robbery was a result of a series of "bad decisions" and something he was "not proud of." He also told the court, "These moments do not define me, and they're not reflective of me."
It was previously reported that Shawn Tacuma Ashman and Carl Harry for the robbery because he didn't want the "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta" cast member to recognize him. The three men managed to get away with approximately $180,000 worth of jewelry.
Safaree previously detailed the robbery when speaking to Angie Martinez on her show. "I just got robbed, two dudes with guns just ran up on me," the former husband of Erica Mena divulged just hours after the ordeal took place. "Had me face down on the floor with a gun to my head. They just took everything."
