AceShowbiz - Hailey Baldwin's new makeup tutorial sparked backlash. While fans loved her "glazed donut" nails this summer, it wasn't the case when the model introduced her "brownie glazed lips" look on TikTok.
The wife of Justin Bieber made use of her TikTok account to share her latest makeup look. In the video, the runway beauty could be seen creating her lip look using a brown liner and clear gloss. While Hailey didn't claim that she invented the effect, she also didn't mention that women of color have been rocking the same look for decades.
"ready for all the fall things including brownie glazed lips," so Hailey wrote in the caption. Immediately, a number of people slammed her for alleged cultural appropriation.
One commenter sarcastically wrote in the comments section, "90's LATINA LIPS love that you took inspiration from them." Another person added, "So basically the exact same color combo our tias have been using." A third user, meanwhile, noted, "my mommy & all latinas ate this look up in the early 2000s."
TikToker Benulus then created a new video to comment on the backlash. Benulus, however, called out the double standard that she faced. Calling people "hypocrite," Benulus ranted, "Y'all s**t on my lips every single time I post. But a white woman does it, it's gonna become a trend."
"Yeah, I'm so flattered that Hailey Bieber always gets inspired by my community, by the POC community, but it just irks me that because she's done it now, it's gonna become so trendy," she added.
Hailey, meanwhile, has yet to respond to the criticism.
That aside, Hailey has broken silence on long-running speculations that she "stole" Justin from his ex Selena Gomez. In a teaser of her appearance on "Call Her Daddy" podcast on Wednesday, September 28, Hailey says, "This is so crazy, I've literally never talked about this ever. A lot of the perpetuation and the hate comes from, 'Oh, you stole him.' "
When host Alex Cooper asks, "Were you ever with Justin romantically at the same time as (Selena)?" the model replies, "It's about people knowing the truth. Because there's a truth."
