AceShowbiz - Pink isn't playing when it comes to throwing shades at the government. On Monday, July 18, the "Try" hitmaker unveiled the "Irrelevant" music video which highlights America's protest-packed years.
The clip, which is directed by Pink and Brad Comfort, features footage of various demonstrations regarding LGTBQ rights, racism, the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and gun violence. There were also self-filmed clips of the singer recording the song in the studio.
The 42-year-old, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, repeatedly sings in the song's bridge, "Girls just wanna have rights/ So, why do we have to fight." She seemingly refers to Roe v. Wade ruling that was reversed, making it illegal for millions of women across America to have an abortion.
"Irrelevant" arrived on July 15. Pink previously declared that she is donating proceeds from the track to Michelle Obama's When We All Vote organization. "As a woman with an opinion and the fearlessness to voice that opinion, it gets very tiring when the only retort is to tell me how irrelevant I am," she first said.
"I am relevant because I exist, and because I am a human being," the mother of two continued. "No one is irrelevant And no one can take away my voice."
When We All Vote is an "advocacy group, whose mission is to change the culture around the voting process." A press release adds that it "seeks to increase participation in each election cycle by helping to close race and age gaps. To date, more than 100 million people have been educated about the voting process, resulting in increased voter registration."
Prior to this, Pink encouraged her millions of followers to join Planned Parenthood's #BansOfOurBodies movement. She wrote on Instagram, "Court has stolen our basic right to control our bodies and futures. But together, we are a force of nature. Join us at BansOff.org."
