YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, has his songs 'Gunsmoke', 'Life Support' and 'Lonely Child' dismissed from the case after prosecutors tried to use them as evidence.

AceShowbiz - NBA YoungBoy a.k.a. YoungBoy Never Broke Again has scored an early victory in his gun case. In a Wednesday, July 13 trial, a judge ruled that his lyrics cannot be used against him.

According to Rolling Stone, prosecutors initially used the 22-year-old artist's "Gunsmoke", "Life Support" and "Lonely Child" to connect him to an FN pistol he allegedly had when he was arrested. The songs, however, are now dismissed from the case.

"These lyrics are highly prejudicial as they discuss hardcore rap which has been empirically established to be more negatively received than other genres of music," YoungBoy's legal team explained.

"It would be one thing if the music described this arrest," they continued. "But a song referencing a similar gun well before the gun in the indictment was purchased … offer[s] very minimal probative value and [is] substantially outweighed by the prejudice contained within the words of the songs."

"Even if Mr. Gaulden is familiar with various models of guns and sings about them, it does not mean that he knew this particular gun was secreted on the passenger floor of the Maybach when police attempted to pull his car over to arrest him," the statement concluded.

YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, was taken into custody in Los Angeles back in March 2021. At that time, police attempted to pull the emcee over since he had an outstanding federal warrant after he left his Los Angeles home.

However, YoungBoy reportedly led cops on a short pursuit in his vehicle before exiting the SUV and running on foot. Using K-9 dogs, police eventually found the hip-hop star. They also discovered a FN .45 caliber pistol in his vehicle.

The "Late to da Party" spitter's federal trial is expected to last four days. Despite the small win, the musician still faces a separate gun case in Louisiana.
