In arguing why home confinement at the star's Calabasas mansion is not enough punishment for Kenneth, the feds point out that he kept up with his sex offender registry paperwork for nearly 20 years until he began dating the raptress.

AceShowbiz - Prosecutors seem to blame Kenneth Petty's relationship with Nicki Minaj for his failure to register as a sex offender in California. As federal prosecutors push for serious jail time for the raptress' husband, they point out that Kenneth had been keeping up with his sex offender registry paperwork for nearly 20 years until he began dating his now-wife.
"The timing of defendant's lapse in registration is concerning, given that it occurred when defendant began dating his wife, quit his job, moved to Los Angeles, and adopted an affluent lifestyle," prosecutors write in new court documents.
"Defendant has been completing sex offender registration documents for nearly 20 years," the filing goes on stating. "Over the course of two decades, he was repeatedly warned that if he moved to another state, it was his responsibility to follow any local, city, state, federal, or international laws regarding registration."
The prosecutors make such argument to stress that 6 months behind bars followed by supervised release is not enough punishment for Kenneth, who pled guilty to the offense. They note any home confinement ordered as part of his supervised release would be spent in a huge Calabasas home where he and Nicki live.
They point out that the mansion is located in gated "affluent" community and boasts a pool, state-of-the-art music studio and luxurious backyard, which is not in line with their idea of crime and punishment. They further claim that lap of luxury is what led Kenneth down the wrong road as they believe "the defendant adopted an affluent lifestyle" since he rekindled his relationship with Nicki in 2019 and moved to California.
Kenneth had to register as a sex offender because he was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in the state in 1995. In November 2019, he was arrested during a traffic stop when authorities noticed he failed to register in California. He was later arrested again for failing to register as a sex offender in March 2020 and pleaded guilty in September 2021.
Kenneth now faces 15 months of prison time and five years supervised release as well as $55,000 in retribution. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 6.
