AceShowbiz - Depeche Mode is losing one of its OGs. The band's founding member Andy Fletcher, also known as Fletch, has passed away at 60 years old. The heartbreaking news was shared by the group through their official social media pages on Thursday, May 26.

"We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member, and bandmate Andy 'Fletch' Fletcher," read the statement. They remembered the late keyboardist, "Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh or a cold pint."

The band also sent their condolences to Andy's loved ones as adding, "Our hearts are with his family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy in this difficult time." The announcement did not specify a cause of death.

The news has left fans of Depeche Mode in shock. "What!!! Omg noooo," one fan exclaimed. Another commented on the band's Instagram post about the sad news, "This is devastating. RIP Fletch." A third reacted, "Rest in peace legend," while another mourning fan wrote, "this is the worst week. My thoughts are with his family and friends. This is just so heartbreaking."

Depeche Mode was formed in Basildon in 1980 with Andy, Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Vince Clarke in the original lineup. Vince left the band after the release of their debut album "Speak & Spell" in 1981, which brought the band onto the British new wave scene. In 1982, Alan Wilder replaced Vince, establishing a lineup that continued for 13 years.

Fletch, born Andrew John Leonard Fletcher, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Depeche Mode in 2020. He continued to perform as a trio with Dave and Martin until his passing.
