The lead vocalist of the 'Black Celebration' group has been mulling over Depeche Mode split since the band finished their latest global 'Spirit' tour in 2018.

AceShowbiz - Dave Gahan has "definitely thought about" ending Depeche Mode.

The singer, who released his Dave Gahan & Soulsavers covers collection "Imposter" on Friday (12Nov21), finds his career as a solo artist a more viable option than reuniting with the '80s supergroup once more.

Asked if he'd considered the end of the band he said, "I've definitely thought about it - I thought about it a lot during the last big tour I did with Depeche."

"Not because I wasn't enjoying it, I was having a blast up there. But I want to be able at some point to look at the band and just leave it there - we did these great performances, made these great records and that all stands on its own merit."

"Look, I'm turning 60 next year - I know that's not old these days. It takes a lot from me, actually, and it also takes a lot from my family, my wife, my friends, my own life," he added, reported Britain's the Daily Star's Wired column.

Depeche Mode released their last studio album "Spirit" in 2017 and soon followed it up with a global tour. They documented the trek in a documentary "Spirits in the Forest" released in 2019.

The group were inducted by Charlize Theron into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 along with the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Whitney Houston, and Notorious B.I.G.

"Depeche Mode is the soundtrack of my adolescence. I'm not kidding," the actress said back then. "There was literally a song for every occasion of my life: my first date, my first time leaving South Africa, and of course the first time I got my heart broken."
