AceShowbiz - Margot Robbie is probably mapping out a major heist now. The Australian actress is set to star in a new "Ocean's Eleven" period film, which is currently in "active development" at Warner Bros.
Multiple outlets report that "The Wolf of Wall Street" star will re-team with Jay Roach, who is looking to direct the pic. The four-time Emmy winner directed the 31-year-old beauty in 2019's "Bombshell", which earned her nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Robbie will also serve as producer for the new reboot, with Tom Ackerley, her partner at production banner LuckyChap. Roach, meanwhile, will produce along with his executive at shingle Delirious Media, Michelle Graham.
Carrie Solomon is said to be working on the script. Details of the script are still kept under tight wraps, but it is said that the story will be set in Europe in the 1960s. The project, which is yet to be greenlit, eyes a production start in spring of 2023.
The "Ocean's" franchise started with the 2001 movie by director Steven Soderbergh and written by Ted Griffin based on the 1960 Rat Pack pic. The film starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts was a commercial success and spurred two sequels, "Ocean's Twelve" (2004) and "Ocean's Thirteen" (2007).
After more than a decade, the franchise returned in 2018 with a female-centric spin-off, "Ocean's 8". Still boasting an all-star cast, it's led by Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter and Rihanna.
Robbie last graced the big screen in 2021 with "The Suicide Squad" by James Gunn, in which she reprises her role as Harley Quinn. She has wrapped production on David O. Russell's period drama "Amsterdam" and Damien Chazelle's "Babylon". She is currently filming "Barbie" based on the eponymous toyline by Mattel.
