The first footage of the long-awaited sequel to James Cameron's 2009 hit sci-fi movie offers a glimpse of underwater creatures as well as Jake Sully and Neytiri's family.

AceShowbiz - Here's the first official footage of James Cameron's upcoming blockbuster sequel "Avatar: The Way of Water". Making its way out online after first debuted at CinemaCon and attached to "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness", the first teaser trailer dives into the Pandora ocean.

The footage, which contains almost no dialogue, offers a glimpse of some underwater creatures as it takes fans to the world of Pandora through sweeping visuals of the planet's crystal blue oceans and lakes. It sees the local tribe of Na'vi interacting with various species resembling whales and pelicans.

The teaser also features Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri's (Zoe Saldana) family, which now includes their children. "I know one thing," Jake tells Neytiri toward the end of the video. "Wherever we go, this family is our fortress."

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, "Avatar: The Way of Water" begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film also stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.

"At the center of each of the four sequels will be the Sully family. Each story will be a stand-alone and each will come to its own conclusion," Landau described the movie at CinemaCon. There will be a "fulfilling resolution to each film, but when looked at as a whole the journey across all four will create a larger epic saga," he promised.

The second "Avatar" film is set to be released in U.S. theaters on December 16, with the following three sequels to be released, respectively, on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026 and December 22, 2028.
