Based on George R.R. Martin's 2018 novel 'Fire and Blood', the highly-anticipated prequel series is set 200 years before the events on 'Game of Thrones' that ended in 2019 after 8 seasons.

AceShowbiz - HBO has treated fans to the first extended look at its upcoming series, "House of the Dragon". Unveiled on Thursday, May 5, the teaser trailer for the "Game of Thrones" prequel teases the "pursuit of legacy" that is set to occur as well as the game that the characters are playing to claim the Iron Throne.

Kicking off the new video is Emma D'Arcy's Rhaenyra Targaryen, who is looking at the ocean with a somber look. Meanwhile, Lord Corlys Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint, is heard saying in voiceover, "What is this... brief, mortal life... if not the pursuit of legacy?"

Elsewhere in the trailer, Westeros' powerful houses are introduced. Rickard Stark from House Stark, Boremund Baratheon from House Baratheon as well as Corlyn can be seen showing loyalty to King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) as they promise "to be faithful to King Viserys and to his named heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen."

Not everyone is on board to the notion. Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) tells young Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), "Men would sooner put the realm to the torch than see a woman ascend the Iron Throne."

Sir Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), who is Hand of the King, later hints at an "ugly game" as he urges his daughter Alicent (Olivia Cooke) to "have determination to win it." Alicent becomes the king's second wife and wants her son Aegon to be the heir. Also scheming for the Iron Throne is Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), the king's younger brother.

Concluding the teaser trailer, Corlys notes, "History does not remember blood," adding, "it remembers names."

Based on George R.R. Martin's 2018 novel "Fire & Blood", "House of the Dragon" is set 200 years before the events on the original series. It will chronicle the beginning of the end for the reign of House Targaryen. Those events eventually culminated in civil war and the extinction of the dragons.

Also starring on the highly-anticipated series, which is created by Martin, Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan J. Condal, are Fabien Frankel as Dornish-born Ser Criston Cole, Sonoya Mizuno as foreign-born dancing girl Mysaria, Graham McTavish as Ser Harrold Westerling, a member of the King's Guard charged with protecting Rhaenyra, Ryan Corr as Ser Harwin Strong, the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms, and Jefferson Hall as identical twins Lord Jason and Ser Tyland Lannister. They are joined by David Horovitch (Grand Maester Mellos), Bill Paterson (Lord Lyman Beesbury, Master of Coin) and Gavin Spokes (Lord Lyonel Strong of Harrenhal).

"House of the Dragon" is set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21.
