The organization admits it's 'not appropriate' to give the '12 Monkeys' star a Razzie given his medical condition after previously creating a special category for him.

AceShowbiz - The Golden Raspberry Awards a.k.a. the Razzie Awards have reacted to Bruce Willis' aphasia diagnosis by retracting its recent award for the actor. The organization has decided to rescind the Worst Performance award for the 67-year-old star, believing that his medical condition has affected his "decision making and/or his performance."

Razzie cofounders John Wilson and Mo Murphy said in a statement on Thursday, March 31, "After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the Razzie Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis." They reasoned, "If someone's medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie."

Wilson and Murphy added that "extenuating circumstances" also apply to Shelley Duvall's nomination for her performance in "The Shining". "We have since discovered that Duvall's performance was impacted by Stanley Kubrick's treatment of her throughout the production. We would like to take this opportunity to rescind that nomination as well," they said.

Prior to retracting the award, the organization tweeted on Wednesday, "The Razzies are truly sorry for #BruceWillis diagnosed condition. Perhaps this explains why he wanted to go out with a bang in 2021. Our best wishes to Bruce and family." They added in a separate post, "To clarify, we heard about Willis' diagnosis at the same time everyone else did...just this morning."

When announcing the nominations for 2022 Razzie Awards, the organization revealed a special category for Willis, WORST PERFORMANCE by Bruce Willis in a 2021 movie, with eight of his films landing in the category, including "Apex", "Cosmic Sin", "Deadlock", "Fortress", "Midnight in the Switchgrass", "Out of Death" and "Survive the Game". His performance in "Cosmic Sin" ended up taking the award.

Willis' family announced his retirement from acting due to his medical condition on Wednesday. In a statement signed by his daughters Rumer Willis, Scout Willis, Tallulah Willis, Mabel Willis and Evelyn Willis, his wife Emma Heming Willis and ex-wife Demi Moore, they said, "To Bruce's amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities."

"As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him," they noted alongside a photo of the actor. "This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him."

Messages of support and well wishes have since poured in from his friends and fellow actors, including John Travolta and Matthew Perry. "Dear Bruce Willis, I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through, but you're still the coolest man I've met in my entire life," the "Friends" alum tweeted on Thursday. "You will remain in my prayers for a long long time."
