Virgil Abloh's Sister Breaks Down in Tears While Delivering Heartfelt Speech at Memorial Service

During the ceremony, Edwina Abloh praises the late Louis Vuitton and Off-White designer, who tragically passed away after a private battle with cardiac angiosarcoma.

AceShowbiz - Virgil Abloh's memorial service was held on Monday, December 6 in his hometown of Chicago at the Museum of Contemporary Art. During the ceremony, the famed designer's sister Edwina Abloh delivered a heartfelt speech.

"Virgil inspired multitudes to never relent and to be the best version of themselves. My brother was endearing and humble yet daring and courageous," Edwina began. "His charisma and aura resonated love and kindness to all. He pursued his passions and remained diligent to the very end."

Edwina went on to praise her brother, "He was inspired by his confidence and imagination because Virgil did not believe in the word 'impossible.' " She continued, "As Virgil once said in his last show, 'There's no limit. Life is short and you can't waste even a day subscribing to what people think you should do versus knowing what you can do.' "

"Virgil left a permanent mark on the world in which we will never forget. Your legacy will continue to flourish in the eyes of low and grey," Edwina told the audience, before breaking down in tears. "I'm forever grateful for you," she continued.

Near the end of her emotional speech, Edwina said, "Rest well my sweet and gentle giant. I love you beyond words. You're forever in our hearts and I promise we will keep going because I know you would want us to." She concluded, "Though we were sad, Virgil, by your loss and you're no longer with us, we are thankful for the life that you shared with us."

During the funeral service, A-listers and close friends of the late Louis Vuitton and Off-White designer, including Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Drake, Kendall Jenner, Vic Mensa, Frank Ocean, A$AP Rocky and more, all gathered to pay their respect. The ceremony included a moving performance by a tearful Lauryn Hill.

Drake was seen on stage opposite Ye as they all bowed their heads in prayer. Virgil's wife Shannon Abloh and Tyler, The Creator also became tearful when delivering their emotional eulogies.

Virgil passed away on Sunday, November 28 at the age of 41 following a private battle with cardiac angiosarcoma. A statement on his Instagram page stated, "He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art, and culture."
