Throughout the 2 hour and 35 minute film, the actress playing Chani in the Denis Villeneuve-directed sci-fi blockbuster reportedly only appears less than seven minutes in total.

AceShowbiz - Zendaya Coleman's fans have been left disappointed after watching her latest film "Dune". After movie lovers rushed to watch the movie in theaters or streamed it on HBO Max as soon as it was released last week, many have complained about the actress' very little screen time.
The "Spider-Man: No Way Home" actress, who portrays a young Fremen woman named Chani and also the love interest of Timothee Chalamet's Paul Atreides, was often paired alongside the Oscar-nominated actor for promotional appearances. However, throughout the 2 hour and 35 minute movie, she is only seen for a total of six minutes and 14 seconds, according to Vulture.
This has caused fury particularly among Zendaya's fans, who had expected much more from her character. Taking to Twitter, they expressed their rage with one exclaiming, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN ZENDAYA IS ONLY IN DUNE FOR SEVEN MINUTES." Another remarked, "so zendaya is only in dune (2021) for seven minutes."
A third quipped, "The credits were longer than Zendaya's camera time in Dune." Another isn't taking the excuse that Zendaya's character Chani has small part in the first half of the book. "Now see, all the Dune fans coming out like 'well if you had read the book you'd know her character isn't....' I DON'T WANT TO READ THE BOOK I WANT TO SEE ZENDAYA WHAT'S NOT CLICKING STEVEN," the fan wrote.
Some others took issue with the misleading ads and press tour of the movie. "they had zendaya on press tour as if she has more than 5 minutes on screen," one of them noticed. Another echoed the sentiment, "the new Dune tv spot was 90% Zendaya they are baiting everyone so hard."
"So I went into that new movie Dune expecting Zendaya to serve per usual the way they had her promoting it... just for her to have 10 minutes of screentime in a 2 hour movie," one other added. Someone else criticized Zendaya's scenes which mostly only see her face in the desert, "this is literally all Zendaya does in her 2 minutes of screen time in Dune i'm not joking."
Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" is based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. To preserve the original element and story of the book, the movie only covers the film half of the book, with a planned sequel to cover the rest.
The lack of Zendaya's scenes aside, the movie still received praises from critics, with an 83% approval rating based on 337 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It debuted at No. 1 at domestic box office with $41 million in ticket sales.
