The former 'Saturday Night Live' regular is shocked to discover the politician she used to impersonate on the sketch show has been chosen by Joe Biden as his running mate.

AceShowbiz - Maya Rudolph was stunned by the news that Senator Kamala Harris, who she famously portrays on "Saturday Night Live", is Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's pick for vice president.

Rudolph is nominated for the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy for her performance as the congresswoman on the iconic sketch show, and she reacted to the news during the recording of a panel discussion with Entertainment Weekly and other Emmy nominees, including Angela Bassett and Wanda Sykes.

"Oh s**t," Rudolph exclaimed on hearing the news.

"Somebody's gonna be very busy now," Sykes teased, predicting Rudolph's return to "SNL". "Ruh-roh," Rudolph responded, before going on to discuss whether she will reprise her turn as Harris.

"I love going to the show. Any excuse I can get, I love. I just didn't really anticipate travelling during a pandemic, but if there's anyone that can work it out I'm sure Lorne (Michaels, SNL creator) has some sort of invisible helicopter that can get me there," she joked.

"Ever since I was a kid, truly, I wanted to be on any kind of SCTV, Saturday Night Live, and I can't believe that I got to work there, and I can't believe that it's my family still."

She continued, "I'm so thrilled to even be associated with the show and that I got to go back. It's like the gift that keeps on giving. Honestly, it's my favourite place to play."

Overwhelmed by the news, Rudolph added, "I'm as surprised as you are, guys. That's spicy."

"I don't know that I'm ready to go right this minute, but it's so nice to have this nomination be associated with the show because it's my true love."
