The much-anticipated new film from Christopher Nolan will hit the cinemas in a number of other countries first before it opens in the States in early September.

AceShowbiz - Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated new film "Tenet" has finally landed a release date after four attempts to hit cinemas amid the coronavirus clampdown.

The film will hit screens in over 70 countries on 26 August, in Canada on 27 August and in the U.S. on 3 September.

Nolan's "Interstellar" will also mark its 10th anniversary with a re-release around the same time.

Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Indonesia, Italy, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the U.K. are among the countries that will get to see "Tenet" first.

It is also scheduled for release in Kazakhstan and Russia on 10 September and in Japan the following week.

The film was pulled from the Warner Bros. release calendar last week (ends July 24) as movie bosses considered scrapping plans to release the film globally and traditionally on the same day because so many cinemas remain closed due to the COVID crisis.

"Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theatre partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen," Toby Emmerich, the chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group said in a statement.

"We're grateful for the support we've received from exhibitors and remain steadfast in our commitment to the theatrical experience around the world."

"Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to proliferate, causing us to reevaluate our release dates. Amidst all this continued uncertainty, we have decided to vacate the current dates for our next two releases. We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for 'Tenet', Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. We are not treating 'Tenet' like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that."
