AceShowbiz - Michelle Obama will host a virtual event for MTV to celebrate the 2020 graduating class of U.S. high school seniors.

The former U.S. First Lady has teamed up with bosses at the music video network to put on an online Prom-athon to honour teens in their last year of studies forced to self-isolate at home as proms are cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The special event will feature an all-day online line-up of throwback movies, short-form original content and prizegivings.

Michelle will award 20 high school students with special accolades on the programme as part of her When We All Vote non-profit organisation, which encourages young people to register to vote. The awardees have all been selected for their creative efforts and drives to boost nonpartisan voting registration.

The Prom-athon will end with a 90-minute virtual prom party streaming on MTV's YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/MTV) for graduates across the nation, with a string of celebrities expected to appear, although the names of the stars have yet to be announced. The event takes place on 22 May.
