"Kristin never had a problem with him retiring,” a source reveals to Us Weekly. "She didn't find him unmotivated or lazy."

The source continued, "He took the Miami Dolphins job because it was a lot of money and way more money than sports broadcasting. Why would he not take that?" before adding, "She never criticized him about not working or not working hard enough. She didn't care."

Jay retired in 2017 and opted to be a sportcasyter with NFL on Fox. However, the former Chicago Bears quarterback had a change of heart as he returned to the league later that year to play for the Miami Dolphins, signing a $10 million contract. That didn't last long because he retired again after one season with the team.

Jay and Kristin, who tied the knot in June 2013, announced their split on April 26, writing on Instagram, "We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart."

Rumor has it, the separation stemmed from some financial issues. "Kristin always knew that Jay was trying to keep some of his money from her," claimed an insider. "She suspected this for a while and found some type of proof."

The former spouses managed to avoid a potential court showdown by striking a custody agreement just days after filing for divorce. The parents reveal they have since agreed to share equal custody of their three children, sons Camden, seven, and Jaxon, five, and four-year-old daughter Saylor.
