When recounting her recent kitchen accident in an interview, the former 'Modern Family' actress admits she was 'so shocked that it was more like hyperventilating' than crying.

AceShowbiz - Ariel Winter's experiment in the kitchen has ended badly that she has to make a hospital trip. When discussing about her life in quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Alex Dunphy of "Modern Family" shared the gory story behind how she ended up with "a mildly sad-looking thumb."

During an interview with Access Hollywood, the 22-year-old actress was asked about her bandaged thumb. In response, she admitted to have accidentally cut the top of the particular finger. When asked to offer more details, she spilled, "I was trying to make Greek food because I'm Greek..."

"...and I had chopped four onions just before I chopped this one thing. Chopped four onions and it was great. I just got new knives too," the girlfriend of Luke Benward recalled. "I went to chop a peeled tomato and sliced the top part of my thumb off on a peeled tomato."

On how she reacted to the kitchen mishap, Ariel remembered, "I was so shocked that it was more like hyperventilating. I was like, 'I should be crying but I can't believe it, I can't believe it.' " She went on to claim that she "sliced an artery," adding further, "I bled so much, so [she and Luke] had to go to the hospital, and he actually brought the tip of my finger to the hospital."

The actress who gave voice to the titular character on "Sofia the First" then thought of another incident while in the hospital. Recounting the time a nurse gave her the chopped piece of her thumb, she said, "[The nurse] actually just gave it to me in a plastic bag and didn't tell me it was the tip of my thumb too, so I accidentally threw it away and we had to go get it."

Taking the incident in stride, Ariel assured that she is perfectly fine. "I mean, it's the top of my thumb, it definitely hurt and it wasn't fun and it was a good portion of it," she stressed. "But at the same time, they took great care of me, I was bleeding a lot, but again, it's my thumb. So many people are in there for so much worse."
