Vincent Baran, who owned the sequinned shirt, initially set a minimum bid of $650 on eBay before it attracted 43 bids from 21 bidders, rounding it off with a final sale price of $10,400.

AceShowbiz - One of "Tiger King" star Joe Exotic's trademark sequinned shirts closed for a staggering $10,400 (£8,348) on eBay.

The shirt's owner, Vincent Baran, told TMZ he came across the item online, when he noticed bosses at the zoo owner-turned-felon's Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma were selling a bunch of Joe's clothing for just $100 (£80) apiece.

While he set a minimum bid of $650 (£519) on the garment, after seeing one of Joe's many hats offered for sale at $800 (£639) on the digital marketplace, the shirt attracted 43 bids from 21 bidders and the auction ended with a final sale price of $10,400.

However, Baran told TMZ the winning bidder has since alleged he was hacked and not bidding himself, and will not be paying for the shirt, and the seller has now re-listed the memorabilia at a buy-now price of $10,300 (£8,268) or best offer.

The listing will be live until 17 May.

"Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness" follows the exploits of the prolific tiger breeder, who is currently serving a 22-year sentence in jail for plotting to kill animal rights activist Carole Baskin and other wildlife violations.

The shocking programme became an instant hit with fans amid the coronavirus lockdown, and several spin-offs, including a reported movie, a TV series starring "Saturday Night Live" star Kate McKinnon, and an Investigation Discovery channel "definitive sequel", are said to be in the works.
